The Fresh Fish Place
The work of a fisherman and his wife is never done and this is the ethos of The Fresh Fish Place. We are a family owned and operated business with a passion for delivering the best, locally sourced produce. We sell Scottish fish caught in the North Sea and the Atlantic & work closely with Scottish suppliers, partnering with other family run businesses.
OUR STORY
John & Hazel Stephen are not new to the fish fishing industry! Originally from Peterhead, a fishing town in the Northeast of Scotland, both their grandfathers and fathers were fishermen. John himself, went to sea for 15 years and was the skipper of his own trawler for 5 years. The work of a fisherman and his wife is never done, and the couple have brought this work ethic into The Fresh Fish Place. They also love to eat fish and you can see some of Hazel’s cooking below.
John & Hazel took over the Grangemouth Fish Mongers, businesses which had been in the Smith family since 1952. With none of the Smith family looking to take over the shop John and Hazel stepped in. With years of experience running their own business they have put the lessons they have learnt into practice.
After taking a few months to get their feet under the table, John & Hazel decided to re name the Fish Mongers: The Fresh Fish Place. There was great debate within the family whether we should have had a play on words and called it Plaice, but Place won as John thought Plaice would be too fancy for him. The couple started to introduce new products and began taking in stock from John’s cousins fish yard in Peterhead.

OUR STORY
The Fresh Fish Place are a proud, family run business who believe in supporting other local business’s. John and Hazel’s daughter supports the office, assisting with the day to day running of the business and their son runs their various social media pages which allows us to deliver the freshest content for all things sea food! We only sell Scottish fish caught in the North Sea and the Atlantic and we work closely with Scottish suppliers, always looking to partner with other local family run businesses.
John and Hazel are particularly conscious of sustainability within the fishing industry and only work with MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) accredited suppliers. MSC monitor traceability within the seafood supply chain to ensure fish and seafood are caught legally and ethically. You can find out more about their work by clicking here. The Fresh Fish Place consider their carbon footprint and actively look to minimise the impact their business has on the planet.
OUR PRODUCTS
Our frozen fish range comes from Bannerman’s based in Tain, they source their produce locally for example the Langoustine in the Langoustine Scampi are caught in the Murray Firth.
Our scallop suppliers allows us to provide hand dived scallops from Barra and North Yist straight to our customers. Our mussels come from Shetland, our Crab and Lobsters come from all around the Scottish coast. Our free range eggs come from Corriemains Farm, a family run business based in Ayrshire.
